Abstract

897,847. Snap-action switches; actuation of switches. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 29, 1958 [Aug. 31, 1957], No. 27819/58. Class 38 (5). A switch suitable for use with a potentiometer in a radio receiver, comprises a rotatable and axially-movable operating spindle 3 which drives by means of two toggle-action springs 5, a pair of axially-movable insulating plates 11 whose ends are guided in grooves 15 in the housing 1. Each spring is formed by bending to a U-shape the ends of a straight metal wire so that the straight part 7 engages a circumferential groove 9 in the spindle and the free ends 19 pass through clearance holes 21 in the plates. The plates support silver-coated metal contact rods 23, located in apertures 25 so that the rods rotate slightly each time their ends engage fixed contacts 29, thus distributing contact wear.
