Abstract

808,747. Switch contacts; arc-rupturing in switches. COLNE SWITCHGEAR (K. & W.) Ltd. Sept. 25, 1957 [Sept. 26, 1956], No. 29336/56. Class 38 (5). An arm C, carrying the moving contact I of a switch or contactor, is resiliently mounted on an arm A which is rotatable about a shaft S so that after the arm A has been rotated to bring the arcing faces F<SP>1</SP> of the contact I and the stationary arcing contact J into engagement, further rotation of the arm A imparts a longitudinal movement to the arm C which brings the current carrying faces F<SP>2</SP> of the contact I and the main contact K into engagement as shown in Fig. 3. The arm C is mounted on the arm A by means of pins E, G, which carry springs F, H respectively. The contacts I, J, K may be of copper with the faces F<SP>1</SP> coated with tungsten or tungsten-copper and the faces F<SP>2</SP> coated with silver or silver-alloy.
