936,141. Oil-break switches; switch contacts. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 9, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1958], No. 41104/58. Class 38 (5). Each phase of an oil switch comprises a fixed conductor 12 bifurcated to allow a blade 11 pivoted at 13 on an insulator 16 to swing between positions in which its contact fingers 11a engage contact blocks 10a<SP>I</SP>, 10b<SP>1</SP> connected respectively to line supply and earth terminals 20, 24 by conductors 10a, 10b, the conductor 12 being connected to the supplied circuit 22 and a test terminal 21. The movement of an operating rod 14 to close the blade 11 on to the block 10a<SP>1</SP> or 10b<SP>1</SP> is assisted in its final stage by the electromagnetic interaction between the currents in members 11, 12, the interaction between members 10a, 11 providing further assistance when closing to block 10a. The switch-open position is obtained with the blade 11 lying just below the conductor 12, or, if the switch is arranged so that the conductor 12 is vertical, with members 11, 12 in line. The blade 11 is similar to that of Specification 936,142.
