Abstract

871,568. Snap-action switches. MASON ELECTRIC CORPORATION. June 19, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1958], No. 19617/58. Class 38 (5). The rotary switch of Specification 837,433 is modified by arranging that the springs interconnect the rotor, the rotary actuator and each contact carrier. The latter, 110, is slidably mounted in slots 130 in the rotor 112 and is acted on by the ends 146, 148 of two torsion springs 118 arranged on a rod 138 on the rotor, the other ends 150, 152 of the springs engaging apertures in the actuator 114. Each rod 138 also carries a spring 116 whose ends 160, 162, 164, 166 also engage apertures in the actuator. If the latter is rotated clockwise from the Fig. 7 position to the Fig. 8 position, the aperture edges 168, 180 bear on ends 150, 162, 166 to stress one spring 118 and the springs 116, the other ends of these springs bearing against rods 140 on the rotor. Eventually, the aperture edges 172, 176 are moved far enough to engage spring ends 152, 160, 164. The contact roller 94 is thus forced out of the recess 98 by the initial rotation of the rotor, and the latter is then snapped round until the roller comes opposite the next recess. The rotor carries arc barriers 184 spaced not more than 0.015 inch from the surface of the contact path 92, and when the roller is in a recess the outer surface of its carrier is spaced a similar distance therefrom.
