[Class 38 (v).] A tumbler switch has an insulating contactarm 7 pivoted by an upstanding central part on a pin 3 on which is also pivoted a hollow insulating dolly 8. A coiled torsion spring 14 surrounds the pin 3, and its ends 141, 14<11> rest against the sides of a recess 15 in the contact arm and the sides of the hollow dolly. When the dolly is moved, the spring is strained, but the contact arm is held by the engagement of a spring-urged ball 11 in one of a pair of recesses 10 in the contact arm. When the spring 14 is sufficiently strained, an edge 16<1> or 16<11> of the dolly engages the contact arm positively to initiate movement which is completed by the spring 14 and by the reaction of the ball 11 with the central part of the contact arm between the recesses 10. The movable contacts of the switch are constituted by headed rivets 18 passing through holes 17 in the ends of the contact-arm and engage between fixed spring contacts which project through recesses 21 in upstanding plates 20 on the base which constitute arc barriers.
