Abstract

871,933. Switches held set and freed mechanically. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 29, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 21090/58. Class 38 (5). A dolly-operated switch comprises resilient arms 15 and 16 lying one on each side of a central web 23 of dolly 19 and carrying contacts 17 for co-operation with fixed contacts 13, 14. The contacts 13 and 14 are made from resilient strip material and are bifurcated such that each may be engaged by contacts on arms 15 and 16, which are biased towards contacts 13. The dolly 19 has integral cams 24 and 25 to engage arms 16 and 15 respectively. In each position of the dolly one cam presses its associated contact 17 into engagement with fixed contact 14 while the other cam permits its associated contact 17 to engage fixed contact 13. The dolly is located in its two positions by a bowed spring 18 cooperating with the cam-like base of part 23 of the dolly. This part 23 has integral projections 26 and 27 which after slight lost motion serve to positively open contacts 17 and 14 should they weld or otherwise fail to open by the resilience of arms 15 and 16.
