Abstract

Class 38(5) A contact spring stack operated by a rotary cam comprises a member having a cylindrical surface arranged concentrically with the cam axis, the free end of a contact spring not operated by the cam bearing against the said surface. The arrangement prevents unwanted contact between the springs due to heat or moisture affecting the shape of mounting blocks interposed there between The centre blade 5 of a spring stack 6 has an extension 7 operable by a rotary cam 2 such that when the extension 7 engages a cam depression 3 a contact 8 on the blade 5 engages a contact 9 on the blade 11, and when the extension 7 engages a cam rise 4 the contact 8 engages a contact 10 on the blade 12. The blade 11 has an extension 22 which engages a cylinder 24 secured to the cam shaft 1 and carries an insulating post 20 passing freely through an aperture 21 in the blade 5 to engage the blade 12. The blades 11, 12 are biased towards the cylinder 24 and arranged such that when the extension 7 is on the inoperative part of the cam 2 the contact 8 is mid-way between the contacts 9, 10. A simple two pole switch-may be formed by omitting the spring 12 and post 20. In an arrangement having more than three springs the post extends freely through apertures provided in each of the intermediate springs and carries collars which respectively bear against each of the intermediate springs not operated by the cam.
