A rotary switch, suitable for controlling heating elements, comprises spring contact arms, such as 6, 7 actuated by cams 1 ... 4 on a square sleeve 28 on a spindle 5, the cams 1, 2 carrying a bridging piece 27 arranged in one or more switch positions to interconnect the arms 6, 7. The cams 1, 2 are of insulating material and are separated by a sleeve 29 which may be moulded with cam 2, the bridging piece 27 being mounted on the sleeve and having bentover contact portions .25, 26 received in recesses in the cams and lying slightly proud of the surface of the cams. The piece 27 may be further located by lugs 30 bearing against the sleeve 29. When bridged by piece 27, the arms 6, 7 may be out of engagement with their fixed contacts 18, 20<SP>1</SP>, 20 or one or both may be in engagement therewith.
