Abstract

366,862. Cables. BROWN, W., 89, Douglas Street, Glasgow. July 9, 1931, No. 19734. [Class 36.] The stranded hollow conductor 3 of a cable having impregnated insulation 4 enclosed within a metallic sheath 5 is supported by a rigid and permeable tubular member 2 which is filled with oil-saturated absorbent material, such as jute. The member 2 may comprise an open helix of copper tape. In a multicore cable, each insulated core is enclosed in a perforated metallic supplementary sheath 6, Fig. 2, to permit the flow of oil from the interior of each core to the spaces, which are preferably filled with oil-saturated jute 8, formed between the cores and an outer common metallic sheath 5.
