366,844. Vehicle-axle bearings. HUDSON, W. S. and HUDSON, E., 38A, Bond Street, Leeds. May 30, 1931, No. 15918. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii).] A casing for the ball or roller bearings of a vehicle axle 3 is formed from a single sheet of metal which is folded over to form side ears 8 of double plate thickness and an intermediate cylindrical portion 4 of single plate thickness. The end wall 5 has an oil-hole closed by a spring-pressed ball 14 the abutment plate 16 for the spring 15 being welded to the interior of the wall 5. A dust excluding packing consists of a felt ring 17 between two metallic plates 18, 19 the plate 18 having projections 20 bearing against the outer race-ring 7 of the bearing.
