429,002. Axle-bearing guiding-arrangements for railway vehicles. HUDSON, W. S., and HUDSON, P., 38A, Bond Street, Leeds. Oct. 18, 1934, No. 29885. [Class 103 (vi)] [See also Group XXXIV] A vehicle axle-box 8, that can take end thrust and swivel horizontallyand vertically, has horizontally arranged trunnions 9, and an axially extending boss 15 which cooperate with surfaces in a hornguide 13 so that, with tilt, the centre of the bearing remains practically constant in relation to the hornguide. As shown, the hornguide 13 has a strap 11 welded thereto, the trunnions 9 engaging the undersurfaces of lugs 10 and the boss 15 engaging a curved surface 16. The axle 1 is supported in a ball or roller bearing 2, its end engages an internal hump 14 on the box 8, and dust is excluded from the bearing by a packing consisting of a pair of hard steel washers 6 fixed to the axle and a soft metal washer 7 of T-cross-section fixed in the box 8.
