Abstract
366,118. Axle-box sealing devices. PENNIMAN, W. B. D., 341, St. Paul Place, Baltimore, U.S.A. Oct. 28, 1930, No. 32344. [Class 12 (i).] An axle-box shield consists of leather members 21, 23 clamped between two metallic plates 11, 13 and located in the dust chamber 2. The member 21, which has a bore slightly less than the axle diameter, closely embraces the axle, and the protruding edge of the member 23 is pressed tightly against the inner wall of the dust chamber and holds the shield in position. The member 23 is of U-shape and the dust chamber is closed at the top by a wood block 6. A coil spring may be placed around the member 21 to press it against the axle. The members 21, 23 may be in one piece.
