Abstract
Iron alloys with enhanced strength and resistance to corrosion at elevated temperatures contain not less than about 16 per cent of chromium, about 6 per cent of manganese and substantially more than 1 per cent of molybdenum, the balance being principally iron. Preferably the alloy contains 16-22 per cent of chromium, 6-16 per cent of manganese, not more than 10 per cent of molybdenum, and less than 0,3 per cent of carbon. Other elements such as nickel, aluminium, beryllium, cerium, cobalt, tungsten, vanadium may be present in small quantities. Silicon and copper may also be present but in quantities not larger than 1,3 and 3 per cent respectively. The alloys are particularly suitable for the fabrication of tubes for the cracking of hydrocarbons. Specification 361,916 is referred to.
