Abstract
361,372. Cable clamps. MILLER, J. G., The Gables, Trysull, near Wolverhampton, and BULLERS, Ltd., 6, Laurence Pountney Hill, London. Aug. 12, 1930, No. 24173. [Class 36.] A suspension clamp for an overhead cable comprises upper and lower clamping members 19, 13, Figs. 1 and 2, supported by a block 8 bolted between the limbs 4, 5 of a suspension strap 1. The lower face of the clamping member 13 is convexly curved and rests upon a concave face 12 formed on the block 8, the radius of curvature of the concave face 12 preferably being greater than that of the convex face on the lower clamping member 13. To prevent rotation of the block 8, flanges 11 formed on the block are adapted to engage flat surfaces 10 formed on the ends of the limbs 4, 5 of the suspension strap. The lower clamping member 13, which may be formed with troughed extensions 17 having downwardly curved ends 16, is formed on each side of the suspension strap with stops 18 which prevent the withdrawal of the clamping member from the suspension strap. In a modified construction, the block 8 may be formed with a convex face which co-operates with a concave face on the lower clamping member 13. The faces of the block 8 and the clamping member 13 may also be curved about an axis parallel to the cable to permit a lateral oscillation of the clamping members. Figs. 3 and 4 show a similar construction in which excessive pivotal movement between the clamping members and the suspension strap causes the cable to be released. The gripping of the cable is effected by pressure exerted on the upper clamping member 19 by links 30, 31 pivoted together and suspended from a bridge-piece 28 which connects the two troughed extensions 17 of the lower clamping member 13, as shown. The limb 4 of the suspension strap 1 is formed with abutments 33 spaced on either side of the links 30, 31 so that excessive movement between the suspension strap and the clamping members causes flexure of the links 30, 31, and releases the upper clamping member. Complete disengagement of the upper clamping member is prevented by bolts 35.
