[Class 36.] ' In a suspension clamp for an overhead conductor, of the type in which the clamping trough is pivoted to a suspension element carried by an insulator chain, the clamping trough is supported on knife edges which are arranged to lie approximately on a level with the point of intersection of the sag curves of adjacent spans of the conductor. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a conductor d is suspended from an insulator c by a clamping trough b carried by straps a held together by a bolt l. The straps a are formed with V-shaped apertures h in their lower ends which provide a mounting for knife edges g formed on the clamping trough b. The conductor d is clamped in the trough b by one or more covers e and U-bolts f. In a modified construction, shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, the clamping trough b is carried by a forked member a, the inner sides of the fork being formed with wedge-shaped bearing surfaces h adapted to support knife edges g formed on the cover e of the clamping trough. In order to prevent disengagement of the clamping trough b from the forked member a, a bolt m is inserted above the cover e as shown. In further constructions, the knife edges g may be formed on the member a, the bearing surfaces h being arranged on the clamping trough b.
