[Class 36.] In a device for damping the vibrations of overhead cables of the type described in the parent Specification, in which the cable clamps are provided with rigid elements running parallel to the cable and having their free ends connected to the cable, the rigid elements are formed as rods adapted to lie in contact with the cable. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the device comprises a plurality of stepped rods d arranged beneath a cable c in a suspension clamp a, the ends of the longest rod being connected to the cable by auxiliary clamps, clasps or wire-connections b. The rods d are connected together by pins or bolts and may be curved as shown in Fig 2. The rods may also be arranged above the cable. In a modified construction, the stepped rods may be replaced by a single rod which tapers in width towards its free ends. Fig. 4 shows a straining clamp a<1> having tapered rods d arranged above and below the cable at the clamping point. The rod adjacent the cable may be formed of the same material as the cable to avoid electrolytic action. Specification 312,714 [Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.], is referred to.
