readily and easily applied to I beams or the like.
An object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which may be adjusted to various widths, thus adapting the device for use in connection with I beams of various sizes.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means carried by the support for accommodating a conduit, the means being curved to conform to the curvature of a conduit, thereby insuring against lateral movement of the conduit, with relation to its support.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter more fully described, it being understood that.
changes in the precise embodiment of the inventlon herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a plan view of a support constructed in accordance with the present invention. a v
Fig. 2 illustrates a side elevational view of the same; and
Fig. 3 illustrates a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing indetail, the hanger forming the subject matter of the present invention, includes the opposed clamping sections 5 and 6, each ofwhich comprises a pairof arms '7, which have their respective outer ends bent upwardly as atv 8, and inwardly as at 9, the portion 9 -of each arm lying in spaced relation with the;
body portion of the arm.
The inner extremity of each of the arms extends downwardly as at 10 and inwardly as at 11, the inwardly extending portion 11' of each arm, also lying in spaced relation with the body portion thereof, and as shown Patented. Sept. 14, 1920. Application filed May 20, 1920 Serial No. 382,859.
these portions 10 of the arms are apertured to accommodate the securing bolts 12, which connect the opposed sections and provide means for permitting the sections to be adjusted with relation to each otherto. permit 7 the hanger to be applied to various sized I beams.
The arms 7 of each pair, are connected adjacent the outer or free ends thereof byv means of the supporting member 13, which are formed integral with the arms 7, the central portions of the supporting members being curved to conform to the curvature of the usual conduit'now in use. I
It might be further stated that if it is desired one of the clamping sections may be employed independently of the other, in which case the relatively straightgend portions of the arms '7 may be bent upwardly over the I'beam, thus eliminating the bolts 12 in the accomplishmentof the securing of the sections to the Ibeam. It is of course understood'that'the above mentioned form is only employed with relatively light conduits.
In the use of the device, the hook portions formed by the portions 8 and 9 of the arms 7 are positioned over a portion 'of an I beam as indicated by Fig. 2 of the drawing,
whereupon the securing bolts 12 are manipulated to move the sections toward each other, so that therdevice will be clamped into engagement on the I beam.. I
Having thus described. the invention,what
is claimed as new isz l 1 j 1 A conduit hanger includlng opposed sections, each of said sections comprismg a pairof spaced arms, a curved supporting member connectingthe arms of each pair, said arms having upwardly extending hook members formed integral with one end thereof,
: each of said arms having a depending flange,
the flanges of one pair of arms being dis- 1 posed in spaced relation with the flanges of the opposed arms, said flanges being pro vided with openings, and means disposed in the openings and contacting with the outer surfaces ofthe flange for securlng the sections together. i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing i as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EDGAR JEROME HOFFMAN.
