Abstract

360,827. Electric induction furnaces. CARPMAEL, A., 24, Southampton Buildings, London.-(Ugine-Infra ; 21, Rue du Drac, Grenoble, France). July 5, 1930, No. 20446. [Class 39 (iii).] Automatic temperature regulation of an induction furnace is effected by using a muffle of magnetic material selected' so that it loses its magnetic properties at substantially the temperature at which it is desired to operate'the furnace. Iron, cobalt, nickel, and their alloys are referred to as suitable materials. If it is desired that the return of magnetic properties should occur at a lower temperature on cooling, ferro-nickels containing 5-25 per cent of nickel or high carbon steels may be employed. The furnace may be provided with an external magnetic circuit. The muffle may comprise a . number . of rings 8 of different materials separated by insulation 9. Different equilibrium temperatures will then occur in the different rings. The turns 2 of the watercooled coil are separated by insulation 6. The Specification contains detailed, information of a furnace using a tungsten steel muffle. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 167,545 and 267,704, [both in Class 39 (iii), Heating by electricity].
