Abstract

267,704. Campbell, D. F. March 3, 1926. Induction furnaces.-Metals or other substances which may be in the form of bars or wires are heated to a required temperature by drawing them through a block of magnetic material provided with one or more perforations and heated to the recalescence temperature by hysteresis and eddy currents induced by a magnetizing coil. The arrangement is such that at a temperature above that of recalescence the rate of heating of the block would be less than the rate of cooling due to absorption of heat by the material being heated and due to radiation losses.
