Abstract

Induction heating process for ferromagnetic strip material comprises heating by hyesteresis losses, not by eddy currents, thus avoiding damage by overheating and avoiding the use of temperature controls or protection for the stip. The strip is passed through an inductor in the form of a flattened spiral which forms part of a circuit connected to an H.F. generator. The spiral is of such dimensions that there is loose coupling between it and the strip to reduce the induced eddy currents to a minimum. The maximum temp. reached is limited to the Curie point of the metal.
