Abstract

639,252. Annealing. TRANSFORMER STEELS, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1946, No. 28585. [Class 72] High magnetic permeability is developed in strip or wire of magnetic alloys containing iron by passing the wire or strip continuously through a narrow heating zone of high intensity alternating magnetic field to heat it to a temperature in excess of 1100‹C. As shown a strip, 6 of 3 per cent silicon steel .012-.032 inches thick from a coil 1 is passed under a pancake-shaped heating coil 3 and raised rapidly to a temperature of 1200-1350‹C, at which it is maintained for a very short time resulting in the expulsion of impurities and improvement in the magnetic properties. A shoe 4 prevents distortion of the strip during the heating temperature. A spiral coil through which the strip is passed may be used. Specification 366,523 is referred to.
