Abstract

263,774. Fourment, M. Dec. 29, 1925, [Convention date]. Induction furnaces. - Metal, before being hardened or tempered or worked to produce bars, tubes, wires, strips &c. is heated by induced currents of high frequency. A wire &c. 1 may be supplied by a spool 7 and passed through a heating device comprising a tube 2 of a dielectric e.g. fused silica, lined with a heat insulator 3 and surrounded by an inductance winding of copper tube 4 through which water may be circulated. The wire &c. passes through gas tight packing 5, 6, connections 12, 13 being fitted to the tube 2 to maintain the interior in the desired state of pressure or vacuum with active or inert gas. The tube 3 may be lined with graphite.
