Abstract
Titanium oxide precipitated by hydrolysis either alone or with an extender such as barium sulphate is treated to increase the whiteness and covering power by adding a small amount of a sodium or potassium compound such as the sulphate, bisulphate, chloride, nitrate, carbonate, bicarbonate, hydrate, oxide, or phosphate and heating the mixture to 700-1000 DEG C. so as to obtain a neutral or only slightly alkaline product. The product may be washed to remove soluble substances. Specifications 225,593, 275,672 and 309,598, [all in Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c. Metallic], are referred to.
