Abstract
549,120. Titanium pigments. BRITISH TITAN PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and ANCRUM, R. W. July 3, 1941, No. 8431. [Classes 1 (iii) and 95] Titanium dioxide pigments in which the di- .oxide is in rutile form are prepared by calcining hydrated dioxide under conditions to effect complete conversion to the rutile form and preferably in admixture with an antimony compound, e.g. antimony oxide, and cooling the calcined product slowly, i.e. in a period of 15 minutes to 5 hours from calcination temperature to 300‹ C. The temperature of calcination is preferably above 1000‹ C., e.g. 1050‹ C., and a period of calcination of at least three hours is employed. The amount of antimony oxide which may be used is from 10 to 30 per cent. Conditioning agents such as potassium salts and phosphates may be present during calcination. Specifications 473,312, 479,072 and 529,596 are referred to.
