Abstract
553,135. Titanium dioxide. NATIONAL 'TITANIUM PIGMENTS, Ltd., and BENNETT, A. N. C. Oct. 6, 1941, No. 12893. [Class 1 (iii)] Rutile titanium dioxide pigments of improved colour &c. are produced by calcining with the addition of a small proportion of magnesium or lithium compounds a titanium dioxide precipitate which has the property of yielding a rutile pigment when calcined alone, such property not being enhanced by calcination in the presence of a substance capable of promoting the change of an anatase yielding precipitate to rutile. The proportions of magnesium are from 0.2 to 1.0 per cent. calculated as MgO and 0.06 to 0.60 per cent. calculated as Li 2 O. Small proportions of potassium or sodium compounds may be employed together with the magnesium or lithium. Specifications 513,867, 533,227 and 546,283 are referred to.
