Abstract

Aldehyde-amine condensation products.--Aldehyde-amine resins are made from aromatic amines of higher molecular weight than aniline such as the toluidines, diphenylamines, mono- and di-naphthylamines, or benzidine. The aldehyde may be formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, or furfural. The amine may be added to aldehyde-aniline reaction mixtures, or the resins may be mixed with aldehydeaniline resins. In examples the following reaction mixtures are used, hydrochloric acid being the condensation agent: (1) benzidine and formaldehyde; (2) 1 mol. aniline, 0,005 mol. benzidine, and 1,11 mols. formaldehyde; and (3) 1 mol. aniline or toluidine, 0,01 mol. benzidine, and 1 mol. formaldehyde.
