Abstract
Accelerators for the vulcanization of rubber comprise the condensation products of an aldehyde, preferably aliphatic, a primary amine, preferably aromatic, and an alkylene polyamine. Equimolecular or other proportions of the constituents may be used. Aldehydes specified are crotonaldehyde, aldol, acetaldehyde, n-heptaldehyde, butyraldehyde, b -hydroxy a -naphthaldehyde, acrolein, furfural, and a -ethyl b -propyl acrolein. Primary amines specified are aniline, the toluidines, the xylidines, benzylamine, benzidine, p-p<1>-diamine diphenyl methane, p-p<1>-diamino di-(o-tolyl) methane, 2-4-diamino diphenyl amine, a -naphthylamine, ar-tetrahydro-a -naphthylamine, p-amino phenol, b -phenylethyl amine, methyl amine, ethyl amine, butyl amine, amyl amine, cyclohexyl amine, the propanol amines, the alkyl cyclohexyl amines such as o-methyl cyclohexylamine, the alkoxy cyclohexyl amines such as p-methoxy cyclohexyl amine, and heterocyclic amines such as furfuryl amine, tetrahydrofurfuryl amine, 2-amino pyridine or mixtures thereof. Alkylene polyamines specified are ethylene-, butylene-, propylene-, amylene-diamines, ethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine or the products containing a mixture of alkylene polyamines obtained by autoclaving a dihalogenated alkyl compound such as ethylene dichloride and ammonia in the presence of a catalyst such as copper sulphate or zinc chloride. Catalysts such as acetic acid, butyric acid, &c., may be employed for the condensation reaction with acetaldehyde, butyraldehyde &c. respectively.ALSO:Accelerators for the vulcanization of rubber comprise the condensation products of an aldehyde, preferably aliphatic, a primary amine, preferably aromatic, and an alkylene polyamine. Equimolecular or other proportions of the constituents may be used. Aldehydes specified are crotonaldehyde, aldol, acetaldehyde, a-heptaldehyde, butyraldehyde, b -hydroxy a -naphthaldehyde, acrolein, furfural, and a -ethyl b -propyl acrolein. Primary amines specified are aniline, the toluidines, the xylidines, benzylamine, benzidine, p-p1-diamine diphenylmethane, p-p1-diamine di-(o-tolyl) methane, 2-4-diamino diphenyl amine, a -naphthylamine, ar - tetrahydro - a -naphthylamine, p - amino phenol, b -phenylethyl amine, methyl amine, ethyl amine, butyl amine, amyl amine, cyclohexyl amine, the propanol amines, the alkyl cyclohexyl amines such as o-methyl p cyclohexylamine, the alkoxy cyclohexyl amines such as p-methoxy cyclohexyl amine, and heterocyclic amines such as furfuryl amine, tetrahydrofurfuryl amine, 2-amino pyridine or mixtures thereof. Alkylene polyamines specified are ethylene - butylene-, propylene-, amylenediamines, ethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine or the products containing a mixture of alkylene polyamines obtained by autoclaving a dihalogenated alkyl compound such as ethylene dichloride and ammonia in the presence of a catalyst such as copper sulphate or zinc chloride.
