[Class 38 (iii).] Field control.-For maintaining definite speed relations between the several motors driving, for example, the separate units of a paper-making machine, a compressible carbon resistance is used as the synchronization regulating device. A synchronous motor h connected to a supply g common to the synchronous motors associated with all the units, drives the casing of a compressible carbon resistance b, a power screw k for the resistance being driven by the working motor a through coned pulleys d, e. If the speed of the motor a varies, relative motion between the screw k, and the casing of the resistance occurs, and the resistance b in the motor field circuit is varied to bring the speed of the motor a back to its proper value. The machines h may be synchronous machines designed to run synchronously as reaction machines. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the rotor of the motor h is driven from the motor a, and its " stator " is arranged to actuate the resistance b. The invention is stated to be applicable to a mechanical synchronization regulating device using a leading shaft, and differential gear.
