Abstract

292,478. International General Electric Co., Inc., (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.). June 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Differential governors.-The Specification describes arrangements for automatically maintaining constant relationship between the speeds of running of a number of electric or other motors. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, electric motors M are coupled to respective synchronous dynamo-electric machines S with equaling connections A between the polyphase windings. The windings are mounted on rocking yokes adapted, in response to out of balance torque, to shift normally centred regulating members R for the respective motor fields F. Variable-ratio gearing between the motors M and the machines S allows the speed ratio between the separate motors to be adjusted. The machines S may either be excited by direct current, as shown, or by polyphase current. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the motors M drive elements of differential trains D the opposite elements of which are geared to a common shaft L. The floating elements of the differential trains are adapted to shift the respective regulating members R for the motor fields F. When the invention is applied to non-electric motors, throttle or other regulators replace the electrical regulators R.
