Dec. 14,1931, No. 34646. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1930. [Class 38 (iii).] In a multi-motor drive. e.g. for a printing- machine, in which the individual driving motors are electrically interconnected to ensure synchronous operation, the driving motors each drive an auxiliary asynchronous machine, and all the auxiliary asynchronous machines are electrically coupled on their stator and rotor sides, but are energized only over that speed range in which the synchronizing effect of the connections between the driving motors is small. With asynchronous driving motors the auxiliary asynchronous machines are energized only during high speed operation The auxiliary machines may have a different number of poles from that of the driving motors, and may rotate in opposition to their fields. The drum controller used for varying the starting and speed regulating resistances may also act directly or through a relay, to connect the auxiliary machines to the supply for positions corresponding to medium speed up to high speed.
