Abstract

383,526. Maintaining proportional speeds of motors. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin). April 1, 1932, No. 9440. Convention date, April 1, 1931. [Class 38 (iii).] Alternating - current asynchronous motors driving the several units of a rotary printing press are arranged in'two or more synchronized groups, and separate generators are provided for each of the groups, the generators being mechanically coupled with a main driving motor, and means being provided for adjusting the relative periodicities of the separate-generators, and, therefore, the relative speeds of the groups. Motors 11<1> .. 16<1> driving the drying drums of an intaglio press and a motor 171 driving a folding unit are connected on their stator and' rotor sides to form a synchronized group supplied from a generator 20, while motors I<1> .. VI<1> driving the printing units, and motors 1<1>, and 18<1>, driving the paper roll and cutting apparatus respectively, are similarly synchronizedto form a second group supplied from a generator 19. The generators 19, 20 are driven from a main motor 21, a conical belt drive T being provided between the generators, so that the ratio of the speeds of the two groups of motors may be varied. A small auxiliary motor H drives the generators at an auxiliary speed through a clutch coupling K. The belt drive T may be operated by a motor press button controlled from a distance, or instead of the belt drive T, an additional motor controlled from a distance may be provided for rotating the " stator " of one of the generators. A third generator may be provided for supplying some of the motors driving the drying drums and arranged as a third group, when the paper is subjected at this group to changes of form which are different from those it undergoes at the other drying group.
