Abstract

13,180. Carmichael, P. P. June 7, 1911, [Convention date]. Aerial machines without aerostats; propelling. -The lifting-screws 5 of a helicopter machine are arranged in oppositely rotating pairs, and movable vertical screens 11. 13 are disposed in front of the inner half of the path of the blades of each pair so that they give a forwardly propelling effort. Each pair of screws 5 may be driven by a separate motor 10. All the motors may, however, be coupled to all the screws, as, for instance, by a longitudinal shaft geared to the shafts 9. A pair of forward propellers 18, driven by an independent motor 24, and parachutes 15 are provided.
