Propelling; steering and balancing.-In flying - machines having two propellers arranged at opposite sides of the machine with their shafts extending longitudinally and adapted to be swung independently in vertical planes about a transverse axis, one or more main propellers are provided in the longitudinal axis of the machine and are arranged to be driven by a motor which is separate from that which drives the lateral propellers. The Figure shows the application to a monoplane machine having a supporting-plane T<1> and one or two main propellers P driven by a motor M. In the example shown, the lateral propellers P', P<2> are driven from a separate motor M<1> through bevelgears Z', Z<2>. These gears are mounted in casings which may be swung independently about the transverse shaft by means of handlevers moving over segments H', H<2>. For correcting a lateral tilt of the machine, the propellers P<1>, P<2> are swung in opposite directions; while for lateral steering, one of the propellers is raised to reduce the forward thrust at that side. The machine may be driven by the propellers P<1>, P<2> alone. Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, construction of.-The monoplane machine shown is provided with a supporting-plane T', and is driven by one or two main propellers P coupled to a motor M, and by two lateral propellers P<1>, P<2>, which may be driven from a separate motor M<1> and are arranged to be swung vertically through apertures in the plane T'.
