Abstract

29,364. Zorra, L. Dec. 18, 1909, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Aerial machines without aerostats; propelling; steering; stopping way. - An aeroplane machine comprises a propeller b arranged in a central cylindrical cell a carrying the planes c. Two additional propellers e are mounted upon converging shafts disposed between the planes. The propeller b can be unclutched from its shaft and be reversed, in order, that it may neutralize the propulsive effect of the propellers e while contributing to the support of the machine and enable it to remain motionless in the air. For ensuring transverse stability, planes g are adapted to turn about their horizontal edge g<1>, and also about an axis parallel to their oblique edges. Elevators, rudders, and steadying- planes are provided with propellers which move with them to increase their effect. These may be applied to dirigible balloons. The machine shown is provided with a front elevator comprising planes d' connected by hinge rods d<2>. A propeller d<4> is arranged between the planes d<1>. A biplane rudder f with propeller f' is also provided. Fig. 5 shows a combined rudder and elevator manipulated by rods i' passing through sockets i<2> and having the propeller driven through a universal joint i. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the control plane is hinged at k' and the bearing k<2> for the propeller shaft slides in a segmental guide. The propeller may instead be driven by bevel-gearing disposed in the line of the hinges k<1>. According to Fig. 8, there is an horizontal plane adapted to be warped, and the rudder with the propeller turns upon hinges l'. The tubes of the engine radiator are arranged along the walls of the cylindrical cell a. Planes, arrangement of.-The machine may be of the monoplane or biplane type having the planes extending from the central cell a.
