Abstract

2204. Caproni, G. Feb. 11, 1914, [Convention date]. Motor power plant.-An aerial machine is driven by three propellers 11, 12, 13 arranged as shown; or the propellers 12, 13 may be at the rear of the fuselages. The propellers are driven by three motors 8, 9, 10 having their shafts in the longitudinal axis of the machine. The motors 9, 10 drive the side propellers through a differential gear comprising bevel-wheels 16, 17, Fig. 5, on the motor shafts and wheels 18, 19 mounted in the rotary casing 20 which drives the shafts 24, 35 through bevel-wheels 21, 22, 23 and elastic couplings 38. Ratchet clutches 30 are arranged on the engine shafts to prevent a stationary engine from being driven backwards through the differential gear.
