Abstract

771,198. Printing-machines. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. July 13, 1955, No. 20333/55. Class 100(2) Driving-arrangements. In a rotary printing press drive comprising a variable-speed main electric motor to drive the press at printing speeds, and a separate inching motor to drive the press slowly, the inching motor and its reduction gearing and over-running clutch are all carried by the main motor. The main series-wound alternating current commutator motor 12 has secured thereto a spider 18 carrying a reduction gear box 16 secured to the squirrelcage induction inching motor 14. The shafts of the motors are co-axial, and the motor 14 drives the main motor shaft 15 through an over-running clutch 17. In another form, the motor 14 and gear box are secured to the side of the main motor casing, the shafts are parallel, and the inching motor drive from the gear box to the clutch is taken through a chain drive.
