Abstract
831,967. Motor driving arrangements. LOEWY. ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 7, 1957 [May 16, 1956], No. 15209/56. Class 35. A low-speed drive for a roller 22, as used on a rolling mill table, is obtained by coupling two separate induction machine stator windings 11, 13 of differing pole numbers to a supply, the rotors 15, 16 being coupled mechanically, and the stator 13 being free to rotate and coupled to the roller. Either machine can be wound for the lower or higher number of poles and the connections are arranged so that the roller speed is the difference between the two machine speeds. Either or both machines can be arranged for pole changing for different speeds, or reversal. The machine 13, 16 may be accommodated within the roller 22. As a small change in the slip of either machine will bring the combination to a standstill, stalling will. not cause serious overload of either stator winding. The housings of both machines can be arranged not to exceed the diameter of the roller.
