Abstract

293,708. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. July 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Speed-maintaining systems. - A number of motors b, which may drive sections of papermaking machinery a, are kept running at constant relative speeds by coupling each motor to a differential gear d having one element driven by an auxiliary motor f connected to the supply conductors in the same manner as its respective main motor. The motors f have tapped armature windings with slip-rings and synchronizing interconnections. The differential gears compensate for change of speed of any main motor relative to its respectively auxiliary motor, by acting on a field rheostat h. Instead of having tapped armatures, the motors f may be mechanically coupled to separate dynamo-electric machines provided with synchronizing interconnections. In another modification the auxiliary motors are alternating current machines fed from the working supply through rotary converting apparatus. In all the modifications the motors are supplied and controlled on the Ward Leonard principle by a generator c.
