Abstract

205,215. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Given, R. D. July 15, 1922. Speed-maintaining systems. - In order to maintain constant but adjustable, speed ratios between motors driving different parts of papermaking or other machinery, one of the motors 1, acting as the master motor, drives a small alternator 9 supplying current to rotating wound armatures of small machines 14 driven respectively by the other motors of the group 2, 3. The magnetization of the armatures due to the current rotates in a direction opposite to that in which the armatures are driven through variable ratio pulleys 25, and is thus normally stationary with regard to rotatable field frames excited by direct current from a motor generator 12. The field frames are geared through spindles 6 to brush shifting or other speed-changing devices adapted to correct the speed of the motors.
