[Class 35.] Motors with h unwound iron armatures; driving arrangements.-An alternating current synchronous motor in which synchronous running is attained automatically upon the rotor being set in motion at a speed in excess of synchronous speed and then allowed to slow down, comprises a rotor possessing a small moment of inertia resiliently coupled either permanently or prior to synchronization with a member having an appreciable moment of inertia such as a flywheel. In one form of motor, Fig. 1, which is described in Specification 379,383, a flywheel o is loosely mounted on a sleeve e carrying rotor discs c, d and is coupled to the sleeve through a spiral spring p. In a modification, Fig. 3, a rotor disc i rigid on a shaft f is integral with a pinion p and clutch member q. A flywheel o is loose on the shaft and is coupled through a spring r with the second clutch member s. The clutch is disengaged either manually or automatically by means of a cam x, lever u and grooved member t.
