Electric governors.-The speed of a shaft 1, driven by a steam engine or combustion motor, is maintained constant by deriving therefrom electrical impulses of a frequency proportional to the speed, by means of an iron disc 2 with peripheral indentations rotating in the air-gap of a wound magnet 3, impressing the impulses on two resonance circuits 7, 8 and 18, 19, tuned slightly above and below the normal frequency and controlling the current in two windings 12, 14 by means of thermionic amplifiers. These coils act upon the controlling member such as a permanently acting electromagnetic brake.
