Maintaining equal speeds.-The load driving motor 1 is controlled to run synchronously with a standard speed motor 23, whose stator 24 is supplied at a constant frequency, bv means of a pointer 4 on the shaft 3 hunting between contacts 7, 8 on the shaft 22 and causing a rise or fall of potential from the normal value of the grid 13 of a thermionic valve. The anode circuit of this valve contains the field winding 2, or a saturable choke if the motor 1 is supplied with alternating current. The needle 4 may be mounted frictionally on the shaft 3. The needle and co-operating contacts may be interchanged with respect to the shafts. In an alternative, the stator 24 is rotated with the shaft 3, and the shaft 22 is normally stationary and carries a pointer co-operating with fixed contacts.
