483,493. Telegraphones. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 20, 1936, No. 28547. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 40 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIX] Telegraphone apparatus for providing multiplex telephone transmission comprises fixed transmitting recording magnets 41..44 and receiving reproducing magnets 71 .. 74 acting on a magnetic disc 18 which is mounted on a sleeve 3 driven by a synchronous motor 4. A transmitting reproducing magnet 28 and a receiving recording magnet 29 are carried at opposite points on a disc 15 carried by a shaft 2 which is driven at about five times the speed of the sleeve 3 and in the opposite direction. Means are provided for adjusting the receiving reproducing magnets and for bringing the driven apparatus into phase with that at the distant end. The used records are wiped out by pairs of magnets such as 34, 35 fed bv a battery over rheostats. The first of these saturates the disc and the second neutralizes the effect of the first so as to leave the disc unmagnetized.
