Abstract

628,913. Driving sound film. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., BOWEN, A., and MOIR, J. July 4, 1947, No. 17717. [Class 40 (ii)] In a driving arrangement for a sound film, wherein the driving drum is driven by a Ferraris motor and coupled to a flywheel, more uniform speed is attained by energizing the disc of the motor with a D.C. flux in addition to the normal A.C. flux in order to provide additional damping. The D.C. flux may be produced by a separate permanent magnet or an electromagnet or a D.C. flux component may be derived from the A.C. supply by connecting a rectifier and a resistance which may be adjustable, in parallel with the windings providing the A.C. flux. A resilient coupling may also be provided between the motor and the flywheel.
