[Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] An eddy current drag device is mounted so as to be operated by two relatively movable members of the universal mounting of a pendulously supported gyroscopic apparatus. Conducting disc 21 is mounted in association with the magnetic field device 11 on frame 9 and is driven by sector 13 secured on the gimbal ring 6 through gears 14 having a large multiplying gear ratio. A similar drag device may be provided between gimbal ring 6 and binnacle ring 7. The magnetic field may be produced electromagnetically with means for varying the strength of the field.
