[Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Groups XX and XXXII] Indicating instruments supported in gimbals mounted on a ring itself supported by springs have suspended from the ring or from the instrument by springs an additional mass to damp vibrations one end of such spring being rigidly secured to the ring or instrument while the other end is connected to the mass by a universal joint or vice versa. The invention is shown applied to a magnetic compass g supported in gimbals h, i, the outer gimbal ring i being connected to a binnacle p by springs not shown. The vibration-damping member l is carried by springs o rigidly secured by bolts m to the outer gimbal ring. i. The damping effect is adjusted by placing annular weights r inside the member l.
