Abstract
358,710. Grates. HOPKINSON, J., 9, Alice Street, Hamer, Rochdale. Sept. 27, 1930, No. 28970. [Class 126.] A fuel holder for a domestic or like fireplace is formed of a perforated metal sheet or plate having an upwardly extending part g<1> forming the front and a rearwardly extending part g<2> forming the bottom, the top edge of the part g<1> being adapted to be secured in the fireplace, and the rear edge of the part g<2> to be applied against or to be built into, the rear wall. In the form shown, a bar h welded or otherwise attached to the top of the part g<1> has downturned ends h<1> which hook over end portions f of one of the ordinary front bars, the rest of the front grate bars being cut away. The bottom g<2> rests on the ordinary grate bottom, and brickwork i is built in front of the ordinary back of the fireplace to diminish the depth of the fuel space. The front g<1> is bowed outwardly. The ends of the top bar h are. in an alternative construction, formed with lugs for bolting to the sides of the fireplace, instead of the hooked ends h<1>.
