Abstract

357,801. Gas-washing processes. KOPPERS COKE OVEN CO., Ltd., 301, Glossop Road, Sheffield.- (Heinrich Koppers Akt.-Ges. ; 29, Moltkestrasse, Essen, Germany.) Oct. 9, 1930, No. 30280. [Class 55 (ii).] The process described in Specification 336,484, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], of finally cooling coal gas &c. by circulating cooling water, in which the water before being re-cooled is washed with tar to remove naphthalene from the water, is modified by the substitution for tar of any oil insoluble in water and capable of dissolving naphthalene. An oil having at the temperatures employed, usually 20-60‹ C., a specific gravity rendering it easily separable from the water is preferably selected. Tar oils, petroleum, and paraffin oil are examples.
