Abstract
351,023. Tar. THERMAL INDUSTRIAL & CHEMICAL (T.I.C.) RESEARCH CO., Ltd. and CONDRUP, C. 0., 136, Victoria Street, London. March 19, 1930, No. 8862. [Class 55 (ii).] Coal tar is treated for use on roads &c. by distillation in two separate operations so as to obtain (1) a dehydrated or lightly "topped" tar, and (2) a heavy residue tar or pitch, and the products are blended. The final product may contain a relatively high proportion of oils evaporable at a temperature of about 200‹ C., of free carbon, or of pitch, and has a high specific gravity. 918 gallons of crude vertical retort tar gave 720 gallons of dehydrated tar, and 2250 gallons of crude tar gave 1150 gallons of heavy residue. 1870 gallons of road tar were obtained by admixture, and had a viscosity value of 20 seconds at 30‹ C.
