Abstract

Holders.-Waterless plate gas-holders are sealed by means of a solution of mineral bitumen in a mineral oil such as a lignite or low temperature tar oil having a high boiling curve starting at about 300‹ C., a low setting point not above -20‹ C., and a high flash point, the bitumen being of such a nature that it dissolves in the oil without slimy deposits. A suitable solution is 20 per cent mineral) oil pitch in 80 per cent of mineral oil having a specific gravity 0.915, flash point 153‹ C. and a setting point below -22‹ C. and such that 70.3 per cent passes over on fractional distillation between the temperatures of 300-360‹ C.
